Brendan Benson’s My Old, Familiar Friend out 8.18.09
UPDATE: MP3 from new album now available!
Brendan Benson – “Feel Like Taking You Home”File Brendan Benson under that category of criminally underrated solo musicians. Before his work with the Raconteurs, Benson had released three records and a couple of EPs, all full of well-written, straightforward indie pop with a warm, classic edge. His new album, My Old, Familiar Friend, comes out on August 18th via ATO Records. More info, tracklist and MP3s after the jump.
Since 2005’s The Alternative to Love, Benson has spent significant time writing, performing, and touring the world with blues-rock outfit the Raconteurs. Throw that in with his already-solid roster of solo albums (1996’s One Mississippi, 2002’s Lapalco, 2005’s The Alternative to Love), and you have a potentially stellar fourth record on the horizon. Here’s hopin’ for more of the Cars/Kinks/Paul McCartney/ELO-influenced style on which Mr. Benson has built his solo career.
My Old, Familiar Friend was recorded in Nashville and London with producer Gil Norton (Pixies, Maximo Park, Foo Fighters) and mixer Dave Sardy (the Rolling Stones, LCD Soundsystem, Oasis). Stay tuned for info on a summer U.S. tour.
