Free “Space Oddity”: Matador Standoff, Day 2
Alas, I have some bad news my friends. We received a very prompt response from Matador Records and despite my idle threats (who wouldn’t be scared of a blogger?) it appears that Cat Power only recorded a fragment of the song and what you hear on the commercial is all you get.

We’re more than used to blog posts lamenting our poor judgment - we welcome them!
Chan Marshall recorded only the fragment of “Space Oddity” that you hear in the commercial. There is no full-length version. She has no plans to record a full-length version at this time, and those decisions are up to the artist, not us.

Crap on a stick. One can only hope that somewhere out there Cat Power is reading this post and a single tear is cascading down her cheek. We love you Cat Power - how about another covers album with “Space Oddity” on it? Better yet, how about a Stranger Dance exclusive release? Just have your people get in touch with my people.

Free “Space Oddity”: Open Letter to Matador Records
As many of you may know, we recently posted an article informing our readers that Cat Power is indeed behind the song for Lincoln’s new commercial. In fact, it’s a cover of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” The only problem is that NO ONE can find a copy of the song anywhere. Like many of our readers, the Stranger Dance staff is left wondering wtf?
Due to the popular response, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to email Matador Records about the song to find out what the deal is and when, if ever, it will be released. In the meantime, you can help by leaving a comment on this post to show that you want “Space Oddity” and you want it now!

To Whom It May Concern,
The staff of Stranger Dance, as well as its readers, are so excited about the use of Cat Power’s cover of the David Bowie song “Space Oddity” in the new Lincoln MKS commercial that we’re wondering where we can get a copy. (Yes, we’d even pay for it!)
Can you provide us with any information regarding its availability? As you can see fans of the commercial are upset that you’re keeping such a gem all to yourself:

Nike knows how to pump up athletes. The new “Leave Nothing: Fate” commercial with LaDainian Tomlinson and Troy Polamalu (spell check anyone?) features a remix of Ennio Morricone’s “The Ecstacy of Gold.” Almost as good as the Saul Williams ad… almost. Special thanks to Allen for the tip.

Commercial Madness: iPod Nano Chromatic Gets Bruises
Anoooooooother Apple commercial with a catchy song? Of course. I wonder when Apple is going to come up with a new campaign. I guess if it’s not broken don’t fix it? Anyways, the brand new iPod Nano commercials feature Chairlift’s “Bruises.” Enjoy.

Ok, technically not a commercial. But in an attempt to branch out I was thinking of some great television show theme songs and the one that continued to haunt me was AMC’s Mad Men.
After some short searching, I found out that it’s an RJD2 instrumental called “A Beautiful Mine.”
And on a side note, if you haven’t seen Mad Men yet, I highly recommend it - especially if you’re getting sick of Entourage’s tired story lines.

Marriott does a great job of butchering songs. Little slices of Andrew Bird can be heard in tons of their commercials, but this takes the cake. Kelley Stoltz’s “Memory Collector” is already one of those songs you probably don’t want to admit you like, but even I take offense when they edit it down to just a few “ba-ba-bum-das.” Ah well, his iTunes profile still got a major bump out of it.
