Clint Mansell’s “Moon” Soundtrack

Moon movie poster

Most of the press around Moon hinges on the fact that it is the feature film debut of Duncan Jones, son of David Bowie, and all of the requisite “Can you hear me, Major Tom?” comparisons.

While the movie is getting strong reviews, and Sam Rockwell is getting early award buzz, we were completely enthralled by the soundtrack. The zero-gravity score is the work of composer Clint Mansell, best known for his work with director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler and π).

Clint Mansell – “Are You Receiving?”

The full soundtrack will be available July 21st – recommended for fans of post rock.

    Agreed!

I’m kind of dying to get this soundtrack as soon as I can! Excellent film, which was wonderfully accompanied by the equally excellent music.

    Yes indeed!

Just for the sake of music-web-site-relevance, worth mentioning that Moon is directed by David Bowie’s son…

I agree, Moon is a great movie but I wish was longer. I’m never disappointed with Sam Rockwell, there were so many emotions going through Sam Bell I felt his pain. The soundtrack was beautiful and I’m definitely going to buy it as soon as it comes out.

I just finished the movie tonight — after having purchased it a couple of days ago. Anyway — we must be of the same mind. I was like — what in the world is that music? It’s fabulous. I knew it wasn’t Radiohead … but it reminded me of an instrumental Radiohead. I haven’t thought about an instrumental score like this since all that weird aching and creaking score you get with There Will Be Blood. Nice site by the way!

Moon was great for the first hour or so, but I felt totally let down by the ending. Major cop out. Sam R was great though, and the soundtrack is definitely top notch.

What was the song that played when Sam’s alarm clock went off?

Moon is an amazing movie! I wish that a sequel comes out in regards to this amazing film. I’ve seen it a whole bunch of times and still can’t get enough of watching it. What happened when “cloned” Sam Bell reached Earth? What happened when the communications tower was knocked out allowing the next Sam Bell to actually reach earth “Via-Jupiter Link”? So many Gaps to this amazing film… PLEASE HAVE A SEQUEL!

“Moon” is one of the best movies, I mean the “best” of 2009 and one of the best in many many years. Avatar was a good movie, but Moon was a great movie with a great story, great cast, great build up, great … everything all within 90 minutes. It’s a movie I still think about and get very excited when I talk about it. The musical score also complaints the movie further. I think everyone should witness this classic achievement in film-making.

I watched in the theater and I was blown away. I watched it again online and it still resonated with me. And the soundtrack is flat out brilliant. It makes you feel Sam’s Isolation. I went right online and bought it.

Job well done. I wasnt sure if this would have been any good but it turned out to be great. I got my family and friends to watch it and they feel the same way. I feel this movie is a distant cousin of Cast Away which I also love. Both sort of stranded and isolated yet addicting to watch.
