Coachella Lineup Announced … Finally
After what seemed like a series of odd delays and false starts, the lineup finally got released today for this year’s Coachella Music Festival. It’s a good one. Really good. Headlining each day are Paul McCartney on Friday, The Killers on Saturday and The Cure on Sunday (before you scoff at Friday’s closer, Uncle Corey’s first concert ever was Paul McCartney and he blew me away). But, fuck the top-of-the-bill. Dig down a bit, and this is a truly well-balanced, incredible show.
Among those that caught my eye: Conor Oberst and the Mystic Vally Band, Crystal Castles, Ghostland Observatory, Girl Talk, N.A.S.A., People Under The Stairs, Switch, The Black Keys and We Are Scientists on Friday; Amy Winehouse (how hot of a mess will she be?!), Atmosphere, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Mastadon, Superchunk and TV On The Radio on Saturday; then Brian Jonestown Massacre, Clipse (!), Fucked Up, Jenny Lewis, Lupe Fiasco, Lykke Li, Perry Ferrell, Public Enemy, X and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on Sunday.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is a festival.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual festival held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. This year’s festival will be held on April 17-19.
Here’s hoping the folks at Another Planet Entertainment, who put together Outside Lands, take a long hard look at this show — mainly the diversity of the lineup, which was so sorely lacking last year — and piece together this year’s version in a more friendly-for-everyone manner.
I’m not going to Coachella, but this lineup really makes me wish I was.
MP3s:
N.A.S.A. — “Whachadoin?” [f. Spank Rock, M.I.A., Santogold & Nick Zinner]Lykke Li — “Dance Dance Dance”
Lupe Fiasco — “Dumb It Down”
Clipse — “Numb It Down”

No Pavement reunion…boo!
I’d rather see them in a theater if that happens. Though, I’d doubt they could survive a tour together. I’ll take Malkmus on his own for now …
