Panther Picks (Episode 16) – Bailout Blues

Given our current economic situation, “Bailout Blues” seems like an obvious theme. However, I’m not sure the songs I picked have anything to do with it – although you have to admit that a song named “Crop Circle Jerk ‘94″ may, in some small way, sum up the situation. For those of you who don’t know, Megapuss is actually a band comprised of none other than Devendra Banhart and Greg Rogove (please keep your sexual orientation jokes in your pants).

I’d also like to direct your attention to Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead,” if for no other reason than it feels good to get your groove back.

Finally, I threw some Kings of Leon your way because all the kids are talking about it, just like all the political kids are talking about this economic crisis.

Actually, just out of curiosity, who’s for the bailout and who’s against it? Leave your thoughts in the comments section. Personally I think I’m against it, but if I were a Congressman I’d probably pass it because I don’t see any other immediate solution besides kicking out Bush a few months early.

MP3s:

Megapuss – “Crop Circle Jerk ‘94″
Okay – “Only”
Rogue Wave – “Seasick on Land”
Passion Pit – “Sleepyhead”
Kings of Leon – “I Want You”
RATATAT – “Loud Pipes”

Says the guy from the UK. So are you for or against? Look, I don’t want to bail out those circle jerks on Wallstreet as much as the next guy, but given the way our system is constructed, not bailing them out is going to cause a gigantic panic that will spread, gasp, to your country as well. In fact, I believe it already has and I believe your government has already put billions in the market to rectify the situation. I don’t want to add to our ridiculous debt either and I’m open to some other solution, but none is being presented. I think I’m with Mr. Obama on this one – pass it now to calm down everyone but include paying back taxpayers as a must. Also create a “Financial Stability Fee” so that when this inevitably happens again in ten years they can bail themselves out. Basically, the only real solution to this entire mess is electing Obama next month.

Passion Pit is so awesome, I don’t even care that my Social Security Pension is gone!
