French Miami, Silian Rail & By Sunlight [Photos]
A special thanks to everyone who made it out last night to the show. It was quite a successful night for Stranger Dance’s second official concert event — ok, maybe the bands had a little bit to do with it. In case you missed it, our very own Laura Ciekot snapped some shots for your viewing pleasure. Check them out after the jump.

Silian Rail’s live performance is a demonstration of impressive instrumental work that you have to see to believe. The two piece relies on its members’ ability to multitask, utilizing extra limbs to simultaneously play guitar, drums and synth. Landy’s complex fretwork is an impeccable maze of melodic surprises, and when combined with crescendos from Kuhn, achieves a bigger sound than expected.

By Sunlight continued the evening with a mix of sound that lingered on the mesmerizing repetition of chords that make you say “ahhhhhhh” (different than unggggh). As the crowd packed in they were met with a wall of cloudy pedal effects that were blended together to create a bridge between each tune the band played.

Last, but certainly not least, French Miami absolutely crushed it. Clearly practiced in the art of crowd control, there wasn’t a person who didn’t get chills when Curtis played the lick that commenced “Science Fiction.” The band’s sound is one of the most distinct in the Bay Area, combining pointed (Primus-esque?) guitar, layered synth and shouting vocals to create their trademark, unbridled live energy. If you haven’t seen them yet, I can tell you this — they live up to the hype. Go see them ASAP.
