SD Presents: Geographer @ Cafe du Nord 4.23.09

Geographer Zapruder Harbours Poster

We’re very excited to be presenting an evening with three of our favorite Bay Area bands, Geographer, Michael Zapruder and Harbours on April 23 at Cafe du Nord.

Geographer ( Official Website | MySpace )

Building on the overwhelmingly positive response to last year’s debut, Innocent Ghosts, Geographer has been packing shows and building an impressive amount of buzz for such a young band. Having most recently shared the stage with Alaska in Winter (Beirut collaborator) and being dubbed one of “Three undiscovered bands you need to hear now” by SPIN, Geographer has solidified their place as a Bay Area band to not let out of your sites in 2009.

Michael Zapruder ( Official Site | MySpace )

Zapruder’s complex songs have garnered comparisons to Beck, Andrew Bird, Leonard Cohen and Rufus Wainwright. Village Voice called him “a damned fine singer-songwriter (and guitarist and pianist) from San Fran, Zapruder’s little song-nuggets evoke Rufus Wainwright and newer Elvis Costello.”

For more, check out our recent interview with Zapruder.

Harbours ( Official Website | MySpace )

These Mission dwellers have been quietly building buzz foloowing the release of their debut No Souvenirs. CokeMachineGlow called frontman Miguel Zelaya “the Americana-tinged pop star of San Francisco” and Pirate Cat Radio lauded them as “fast-rising stars of the Bay Area music scene. Seamlessly blending ’60s and pop sensibility with modern indie rock, they are a band to watch.”

You can RSVP and invite friends to the event on Facebook.

MP3s:

Geographer – “Can’t You Wait”
Michael Zapruder – “Ads for Feelings”
Harbours – “Situation”
