In the Know: His Clancyness, Fiveng and Kuroma

Until a couple of days ago I had never heard of His Clancyness. But I bet I’m not alone, am I? Shocking because “Misinterpret My Words” is easily one of the best tunes I’ve heard in a while.
With hints of The Shins and Band of Horses, His Clancyness specializes in mellow, reverb-drenched rock that’s the perfect soundtrack to the end of your day – unfortunately his debut effort Hissometer Cassette is sold out for now, but visit myspace to get a listen.

Sticking with the mellow vibe is San Francisco’s Fiveng, the solo experimental pop project of the mysterious, unsigned Nicholas Ng.
“Jonah” is an infectious track that has everything we need more of these days – vocal wooing, sticcato organ and electronic production that has a definite Animal Collective influence. If you like what you hear check out more on myspace.

Hank Sullivant (The Whigs, MGMT) masterminded the solo effort that is Kuroma in 2008. His first EP, Paris, is full of rockers, trip-outs and bluesy tracks like “Alexander Martin.” Does he have ADD? Maybe a little bit. But with such a versatile songwriting talent I guarantee Sullivant’s name is going to keep popping up again and again.
“In the Know” is a recurring series on Stranger Dance that features the latest and greatest MP3s circling the web. If you think you’ve got a tip we should know about email Peter.
