In the Know: Patrick Watson, Big Pink & Yim Yames
Whenever the moon is just right, the Vague Panther picks his favorite MP3s from the web to bring you the “In the Know” series. If you’ve got a tip that might pique his interest email him at vaguepanther(at)strangerdance.com.

We’ve been meaning to add Patrick Watson to the “In the Know” list ever since his May release, Wooden Arms. The Canadian’s sound is an experimental, eclectic mix that strikes a chord with fans of Jeff Buckley, Sufjan Stevens and Andrew Bird. And most importantly, Wikipedia reveals that Watson was born in California – so I guess we can take credit, right?

The Big Pink’s A Brief History of Love isn’t due out until September, but the track “Dominoes” has been making the rounds on the internets recently. I’ll admit that the whole electronic rock thing doesn’t really make me want to read on, but the track does borrow a drum sample from MGMT’s “Time to Pretend.” So I guess you can blast this during your next game of beer pong.
Yesterday we noted that Yim Yames (aka Jim James of My Morning Jacket and Monsters of Folk) just released his gorgeous EP of George Harrison covers. But I couldn’t get enough of it, so I decided to post the stream itself and outclass Jay. More importantly, Yames’ site also notes that a full length solo album is coming soon, so stay tuned…
