In the Know: Spoon, Vulture Whale & White Antelope

Spoon - Transference

Spoon – “Written in Reverse”

“Written in Reverse” is the new single from Spoon’s upcoming Transference LP due out January 19th via Merge. And considering our site’s name, you might guess we’re more than just a little bit excited about their seventh full-length effort. In other words, it gives us a nice excuse to post the album’s teaser video below…

Vulture Whale – “The Pipe”

Wait a minute, let me get this straight… A free EP from Alabama’s Vulture Whale features the band singing in fake British accents? I’m surprised how fast I forgot about the whole “concept” of it and got lost in how great of a knock off it really was. As Altsounds put it, Vulture Whale is “the best American band pretending to be a British band influenced by American music since Guided By Voices.”

white antelope

White Antelope – “Silver Dagger”

White Antelope, solo project of Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, has already made a name for itself with some very solid covers. So it’s no surprise that his take on Joan Baez’s “Silver Dagger” is the most stunning track yet. Check out White Antelope’s myspace page to listen to more and dream about another Fleet Foxes release!

“In the Know” is a recurring series on Stranger Dance that features the latest and greatest MP3s circling the web. If you think you’ve got a tip we should know about email Peter.

As the resident Spoon fanboy, I’ll say that I am indeed excited about this. I love that they never stand still – after dropping R&B-influenced Ga Ga Ga, they come back with their angriest song since their debut back in ‘96.
