In the Know: Taken by Trees, Almighty Defenders & Volcano Choir
Whenever the moon is just right, the Vague Panther picks his favorite MP3s from the web to bring you the “In the Know” series. If you’ve got a tip that might pique his interest email him at vaguepanther(at)strangerdance.com.

“Watch the Waves” is a single off of Taken by Trees’ upcoming East of Eden LP, due out September 8, 2009. If Victoria Bergsman’s voice sounds familiar it’s because she appeared on Peter Bjorn and John’s track, “Young Folks.” Yup, you know the one.
If you dig, watch the short documentary that details East of Eden’s recording process in Pakistan.

The Almighty Defenders give us yet another single off of their upcoming September 22 debut LP. The super group consists of the Black Lips, King Kahn and BBQ who started recording in Germany after the Black Lips’ infamous escape from India. Check out their other single, “Bow Down and Die,” over yonder.

Volcano Choir is a collaboration between Bon Iver leader Justin Vernon and like-minded Wisconisnites Collections of Colonies of Bees, . The Choir’s debut LP Unmap will be released through Jagjaguwar on September 22.
“Island, IS” is a beautiful track structured around a guitar loop that breaks for momentary sonic breezes while never really delivering the climax you might expect. I hope the rest of the album isn’t such a tease – although I’ll still buy it regardless.

Nice picks this week, VeePee
