In the Know: Wye Oak, MGMT, Leopold and His Fiction

Wye Oak released their EP My Neighbor/My Creator last week via Merge. The husband-and-wife duo is yet anther band to come out of Baltimore’s luscious indie scene that rose to national prominence with bands like Beach House, Animal Collective and Dan Deacon. If you’re like me, then this EP won’t satisfy your curiousity, so check out their 2009 effort, Knot.

“Holy overdose, Batman!” Although the title track also leaked, “Flash Delirium” is the first official track to be released off of MGMT’s sophomore effort Congratulations (4/13/10).
The only way to describe it is to say it’s perfect for those of you with ADD, making a complete thematic shift every 30 seconds through it’s four-minute journey. Please tell me which sound/band each 30-second portion is making an homage to in the comments section or else I will be forced to remain in the fetal position for the rest of the day…

San Francisco’s Leopold and His Fiction are working with legendary producer Thom Monaham (Vetiver, Devendra Banhart) on their next full-length album.
Judging by this listen of “Golden Friends” things are going just as well as my first sentence implies. The freak-folk sound of the seventies is alive and well, complete with some awesome organ and bluesy electric guitar. Lava-lamp worthy for sure.
