John Zorn to Hold March Residency at Yoshi’s SF
Jazz iconoclast John Zorn is scheduled to hold a six-night residency at Yoshi’s San Francisco in March. Never one for convention, the legendary avant-garde jazzman will play under a different band name each night — most groups utilize a core of Joey Baron, Trevor Dunn and the iconic Marc Ribot on drums, bass and guitar, respectively.
Each “group” will likely perform music from a distinct era of Zorn’s career — from the jazz-punk of Naked City to the klezmer-influenced Masada to his “Music Romance” series.
Zorn kicks off the residency March 10 performing as Secret Chiefs 3, featuring Trey Spruance from Mr. Bungle.
