Locals Only: Stop the War on Fun (Bay Area Event Highlight)
[Locals Only is a regular feature where the Stranger Dance staff focus on the best and brightest of the San Francisco Bay Area music scene. Feel free to hit us up with any information on local bands, musicians, shows, and other music-related events and projects.]
Remember the legal battle over all-ages concerts in San Francisco? Unfortunately, it’s still raging on, and while the ABC continues to push its lame agenda, the under-siege venues in the Bay Area are cultivating hefty legal fees. What’s to be done?
The hard-working people behind Stop the War on Fun have stepped up to do exactly that, and have organized the first benefit show for the cause tomorrow night: Friday, August 14th, 2009 at the Uptown in Oakland. The show starts at 9:00 p.m., costs $8, and will feature the following Bay Area bands: the Hundred Days, the Hot Toddies, Oona, Vitamin Party, and Mister Loveless. Somewhat ironically, the show is 21+ (because the Uptown is a 21+ club), but keep an eye out for future all-ages benefit events.
Join the cause by checking out the Stop the War on Fun website and Facebook group.
MP3s:
Oona – “Tore My Heart”The Hot Toddies – “Photosynthesis”
Mister Loveless – “Good Story”

I can’t help but wonder why one of the venues under attack isn’t hosting this shindig, but i guess it comes down to finances.
Yeah, I’m with you Julie. That does seem a little weird. Either way, it’s a good cause regardless of venue
