Meow Picks (Episode 7) – Tahoe Tripping
I was in Tahoe during the Fourth and really had a cool little holiday with a ton of great music. Uncle Corey had the N.E.R.D. album stuck in my head even if, alas, I forgot to burn it to a CD to play in the car. And even though I got into a debate with my girlfriend over the merits of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (I think they are very talented, but fell a little short on Show Your Bones) it did remind me of some of the underrated material on their first album, Fever to Tell. Listening to Karen O then got me thinking about other great, or perhaps eccentric, female vocalists in recent years, so I threw in some St. Vincent, Coco Rosie and Blonde Redhead for your listening pleasure. We also managed to pick up some great college indie rock station around Davis who played an old favorite, Silver Sun Pickups’ “Lazy Eye.” Finally, I sprinkled in some electronica and DJ food, both old and new, that’s been hanging around my headphones these past couple of weeks. Yummmm… just as tasty as a little 4th of July BBQ.
MP3s:
N.E.R.D. – Yeah YouYeah Yeah Yeahs – Pin
St. Vincent – Now, Now
Coco Rosie – By Your Side
Blonde Redhead – Equus
Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye
Grand Unified – Shake Up [Jadell Remix]
Boards of Canada – Kaini Industries
Georgia Anne Muldrow – Simply a Joy
The Roots – Rising Down [f. Mos Def and Styles P]

I love “Pin.” The rest of that album could be total shit and that song and “Maps” would still make it a good album.
Lazy Eye was such a wonderful departure from their previous single, Irritable Bowel.
Great bass line.
