Outside Lands Update: Tenacious D to Replace Beastie Boys
Breaking news from the folks behind the Outside Lands Festival: comedy-rock duo Tenacious D have been tapped to replace the Beastie Boys to close out the festival’s third and final night.
The Beasties were forced to back out as headliners following news that MCA had been diagnosed with cancer in one of his salivary glands and a lymph node.
The self-proclaimed “Greatest Band in the World,” comedians/actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass, will cap off performances by MIA, Ween, Modest Mouse and Band of Horses amongst others. A press release from promoters quoted the D promising to “unleash an earthquake of rock on the Bay Area!”
While replacing the Beastie Boys is no small feat, we were a little surprised with this choice. We predicted Oakland natives Green Day as likely replacements and this certainly wasn’t the blockbuster name we had in mind. What are your thoughts? Surprised? Excited? Disappointed?
Either way, we’re hoping for a guest appearance from the devil himself.

Tenacious D – “Fuck Her Gently”Tenacious D – “Rock Your Socks”
Jack Black – “I Pledge Allegiance to the Band”

I’m not sure this is a tit for tat replacement.
