SD Presents: JAPANDROIDS, Surfer Blood, Downer Party
Stranger Dance is proud to present a badass lineup at the Rickshaw Stop. This Sunday, November 29th, Vancouver’s JAPANDROIDS will rock the stage along with Florida’s Surfer Blood and San Francisco’s own The Downer Party.
The show starts at 7:00, costs $10 in advance and $12 at the door, and all ages are welcome. Buy your tickets here, and break out of your post-Turkey Day haze with an evening of hyperactive fuzz rock. You can RSVP and invite friends to the event via Facebook.
JAPANDROIDS ( Website | MySpace )
Japandroids’ Post-Nothing (a 2009 gem that you’ll likely see on many year-end lists) holds no bounds, yet performs the standard one-two punch of lo-fi garage rock. Every chaotic crash on the drums and hard-knocking guitar chord comes with a sense of carefree nostalgia – an excellent lesson in uncomplicated effort and straightforward desire. An epic live show to match such a debut is practically guaranteed. Post-Nothing is out now via Unfamiliar.
Surfer Blood ( Blog | MySpace )
Surfer Blood is a welcome throwback to the early days of Weezer, with enough Beach Boys-inspired vocals and sweeping guitar to create an overall eclectic mix. Hailing from West Palm Beach, the band is currently on tour in anticipation of their debut Astro Coast, which comes out in January.
The Downer Party ( Blog | MySpace )
From the Downer Party’s MySpace: “after a couple of years of trying to carry myself like someone in their late 30’s (with only very limited success), I was ready to be a kid again. In a major way.” Moving on from Two Seconds and Elephone, Sierra Frost now kicks it awesome-style with the Downer Party, making wonderfully pure, energetic rock full of sharp hooks and off-kilter tempos. The band’s Ego-Driven Lust Creatures EP can be purchased over at PopSmear Records.

Japandroids’ August show at the Hemlock was one of the great rock moments of my year — so glad they’re back!
Japandroids ROOOCKED. I enjoyed them a great deal, I even purchased their album to show my support, can’t wait to see them play in SF again. Good job guys!
