Sneak Peek: New Andrew Bird ‘From the Basement’

Andrew Bird - Noble Beast

One of our most anticipated albums of 2009 is Andrew Bird’s Noble Beast, due out January 20th. He’s also releasing a deluxe version entitled Noble Beast/Useless Creatures, consisting of a second disc of instrumentals, featuring collaborations with Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and bassist Todd Sickafoose (a Bay Area native).

Bird stopped by Nigel Godrich’s excellent From the Basement program and gave a stunning performance of Noble Beast standout “Section 8 City.” I talked about impressive newcomer Emily Wells yesterday, gushing over her impressive use of loops to create mini-. I’m pretty excited about Wells’ future, but Bird is still the master and this video is proof.

In the meantime, head on over to NPR Music where you can stream the new album in its entirety. Local readers will also get a chance to catch Bird play at The Fillmore in on February 19th and 20th.

Andrew Bird - “A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left” (from The Mysterious Production of Eggs)

Still really cannot see what the obsession is with Mr. Bird. Saw him live at the Fillmore, and it was just grating and irritating. There must be something there, but it just isn’t sticking.

Oh, and yeah: Tim Reynolds is the master of looping pedal technique, FYI. ;)
