Stranger Dance Staff

Our contributors are a scrappy bunch of audiophiles — drop them a line any time with tips, questions or comments:

Jay, Editor-in-Chief / Managing Editor | email | Twitter | articles

  • Bio: Jay has immersed himself with all things musical for as long as he can remember — performing, collecting and obsessively reading whatever, wherever and whenever he could. He even followed the big money and got a degree in music. He’s also a voracious musical omnivore, happy listening to most any genre or era, but his sweet spot in the musical Venn-diagram is that area between rock, country/folk, blues and R&B.
  • Desert island bands: Tom Waits, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Clash, and The Allman Brothers Band (Duane-era only, thank you).
Peter, New Music Editor / Consigliere | email | articles

  • Bio: As our new music guru, Peter spends a lot of his time surfing the internets to find that band that you’ll end up hearing about three months from now. In his spare time he likes to record in his bedroom studio, creating ambient tracks and beats that are rumored to be found somewhere around the web. In 2006, he realized the error of his East Coast ways and moved to San Francisco where he met Jay.
  • Desert island bands: Wilco, Radiohead, Madlib, Sigur Rós.
Laura Ciekot, Photography Editor | email | Twitter

  • Bio: Laura is a musical chameleon, as comfortable with Dylan, Britney Spears, Peter Tosh or Wagner. She’s also one hell of a singer — a former opera singer, her vocal stylings can now be heard at a variety of fine karaoke establishments across San Francisco. She’s a rabid fan of live music and a stunning photographer, which makes her the ideal concert photographer.
  • Desert island bands: Martin Sexton, The Beastie Boys, Cat Power, Bob Dylan.
Scooter, Sergeant at Arms / Mascot | email | articles

  • Bio: The only native Californian of the bunch, Scooter hails from our fair capitol, Sacramento. He’s got impeccable musical taste, an encyclopedic knowledge of modern music history, sick guitar chops, and is an absurd audiophile (his speaker cables were literally more expensive than my entire stereo) and life-long Pearl Jam devotee (Ten Club member since 1991).
  • Desert island bands: The Beatles, Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, The Clash and Aretha Franklin.
Katie Bain, Staff Writer | email | articles

  • Bio: Katie grew up in Wisconsin and currently lives in Los Angeles. When she’s not at her day job, she’s likely either getting in on L.A.’s vast opportunities to see live music or lying on her living room floor listening to records. She likes hiking, surfing, road trips, writing, reading and baking cookies and respects a well chosen playlist.
  • Desert island bands: White Stripes, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Devendra Banhart, Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver.
