New Atlas Sound: “Doctor” and “The Screens”

Atlas Sound – “Doctor” [Five Discs cover]
Atlas Sound – “The Screens”
Bradford Cox (of Deerhunter and Atlas Sound) is one of the hardest working musicians in the biz. Just when you think he might take a rest, he hits us with a virtual 7″ that features a cover of Five Discs‘ “Doctor” plus an original tune [...]

Outside Lands Festival Playlist: Day 2 Lineup

With so many bands (over 90 at last count) ready to diverge on San Francisco for the second annual Outside Lands Festival this weekend, we thought it’d be helpful to provide some playlists so you know what to look forward to.
Yesterday we gave you a playlist for Friday’s bands and, as promised, here are samples [...]

Video Round-Up, 8.7.09

Welcome back to Video Round-Up, where the SD crew picks through the flurry of videos circulating this particular week and posts the highlights.
This week, we remember two late greats: John Hughes (who passed away yesterday, 8.6.09 from a heart attack at the age of 59) and Heath Ledger (who directed a video for Modest Mouse [...]

New Music: Atlas Sound – ‘Walkabout’ [f. Panda Bear]

“Walkabout” is the first song off of Atlas Sound’s (aka Bradford Cox of Deerhunter) Logos, due out October 20th on Kranky. The track gets a hand from Noah Lennox/Panda Bear, who adds vocals and his fondness for looped samples.
More importantly, this officially begins the debate – could this be a friendlier Atlas Sound album? Cox [...]

Outside Lands Update: Daily Schedules/Tickets

Initial announcements regarding the lineup at this year’s Outside Lands Festival may have received a more varied reaction, seeing as it branches pretty far beyond the more indie-centric lineup of 2008. Perhaps this announcement of the OSL daily schedule will help sway those teetering on the “not-sure-how-I-feel-about-the-Black-Eyed-Peas” fence.
Single-day tickets go on sale here on June [...]

Release Watch: Lotus Plaza’s ‘Floodlight Collective’

What happens when the lead guitarist of Deerhunter decides to make a solo album under the pseudonym Lotus Plaza? Hypnosis.
By all accounts so far, Lockett Pundt’s debut, The Floodlight Collective, is for those of us who love the mesmerizing picking and cloudy effects on Microcastle/Weird Era. Sounds like a definite Vague Panther candidate for this [...]

Photos: Deerhunter Kicks Off Noise Pop 2009

Isn’t it nice when things live up to expectations? It just makes you feel all tingly inside. Or in the case of Deerhunter’s performance last night, completely and utterly awestruck. Bradford Cox and company set the bar high for this year’s Noise Pop Festival by completely destroying the sound barrier at the Mezzanine. Seriously, my [...]
