Our weekly TiVo alert goes to Grizzly Bear, a band right smack in the middle of a talk-show tour. The boys played on Conan a few weeks ago, and have announced that they will debut a new song, “Nine,” on Letterman on July 2. Consider yourself warned.
On a personal note, we over here at Stranger Dance have been obsessed with all things Grizzly Bear, the good and the bizarre, and would like to point out that “While You Wait for the Others,” (which they debuted on Morning Becomes Eclectic back in February) is a strong front runner for our favorite song of the year. Consider yourself doubly warned.

I love Grizzly Bear, but when I saw the music video for “Knife” the other day, I had a few questions:
- Is that Joseph Smith?
- Grizzly Bear likes sausage?
- WTF?

The lineup for Lollapolooza has been confirmed, and it looks like Perry Ferrel & Co. have thrown down the gauntlet, basically taking the Outside Lands Festival lineup, trimming some of the MoR-friendly fat, and mixing in more talent.
Word that Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, The Raconteurs, Wilco and Kanye West would headline the six-day festival in Chicago’s Grant Park came a few days ago. The full lineup was announced today after being leaked by Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times (who Ferrell has since dubbed “Pepe le Pew”).

[Editorial note: This is the first of what we hope will be many posts from Scooter. He's got impeccable musical taste, an encyclopedic knowledge of modern music history, is a sick guitar player, absurd audiophile (his speaker cables were literally more expensive than my entire stereo) and life-long Pearl Jam devotee. Welcome Scoot.]
Is it me or does Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear strangely resemble cult favorite Herbert Khaury, better known as Tiny Tim? “Tiptoe through the Tulips” anyone?
Regardless, Grizzly Bear is an excellent Brooklyn band and Droste has one of the best ears for harmony in indie music (not to mention one of the best noses). If Tim Burton ever jumps on the biopic bandwagon and directs a film about Tiny Tim, Droste is a lock for the lead role. You decide.

The Acorn are being hailed as this year’s Grizzly Bear or Akron/Family, and I can get behind that description, although the Acorn are more straight-forward folk than the experimental leaning of either GB or A/F.

So, apparently you can’t start a music blog without having a top ten list of the past year’s best albums. Even if it’s about a month too late. That’s what Editor-in-Chief The Stranger claims… but relax, the Vague Panther’s list is clearly the best.
