The Wooden Birds Release Debut, Play SF Show 5/31
Where the American Analog Set leaves off, the Wooden Birds begin – and this new project is everything an Andrew Kenny fan could hope for. The band’s debut, Magnolia, is out now on Barsuk Records.
The Wooden Birds (MySpace) are comprised of Andrew Kenny, Ola Podrida songwriter David Wingo, vocalist/guitarist Leslie Sisson, and Lymbic System drummer Michael Bell. Together, the band creates music that’s slow-burning and rhythmic, and ultimately an example in subdued, dreamy excellence.
Magnolia is made from a series of subtle threads that hold it together. The album and songs within are buoyed by nimble percussion, ornamental layers and hushed vocals, weaving a spare and thoughtful effort that sweetens in sound and haunts in mood. Overall, this debut album is a joy for the ears, regardless of any level of familiarity with Kenny’s previous work.
The Wooden Birds are set to play the stage at the Rickshaw Stop on Sunday, May 31st, along with locals the Old-Fashioned Way and Goh Nakamura. The show starts at 8:00 p.m., costs $12, and all ages are allowed in, presented by ipickmynose.
