Tom Waits Announces Summer 2008 Tour

Tom Waits Concert 2008 Tour

This is big news. The 2008 Summer concert lineup was already off to a good start, but it just got a whole lot better.

Tom Waits‘ publicist just announced a Summer tour across the US and Europe. Details are shaky and no dates or venues have been announced. We’ll update as news becomes available. [Update: 2008 Tour Dates Announced]

Fans know that seeing Waits live is something between witnessing Halley’s comet and a blue moon. I was lucky to catch a short set at this year’s Bridge School benefit, but I’d be a lot happier to see a full show in a better venue (especially without obnoxious John Mayer fans complaining throughout).

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a bit of a Tom Waits fan. Actually, that’s a bit of an understatement. I’m a full-blown, foaming-at-the-mouth fan. When all is said and done, he probably tops my all-time desert-island artist list (over the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Zeppelin, or any other established super group).

Tom Waits – “The Day after Tomorrow” [Live on The Daily Show, 11/28/06]
Tom Waits – “Bad Days Intro” / “Cold, Cold Ground” [1987]
Tom Waits – “Chocolate Jesus” [Letterman, 1999]
Tom Waits & the Kronos Quartet – “Diamond in your Mind” [Bridge School Benefit, 2007]

Downloads:

Tom Waits – Jockey Full of Bourbon [Live] 7/14/99, Stockholm, Sweden
Tom Waits – San Diego Serenade [Live] 12/8/73, KFPK, Los Angeles, CA
Tom Waits – Way Down in the Hole [Live] from the album Big Time
Tom Waits – Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag [Live]

[...] been one of my favorite indie hip-hop groups for years, and I’ve made no secrets how big a fan I am of Mr. Waits’ music, so I’m obviously very eager to hear the fruits of this [...]

Please Mr. Waits, if you’re looking in, we would LOVE to see you near Cleveland, Ohio during the summer of 2008 (anywhere in North America would be appreciated; we’ve got wheels and we intend to use them if necessary). Son and father will be front and center (if we can keep the commercial elite out of the front sections) and you’ll actually feel the over-the-top appreciation for your over-the-top Christian Gangsta artistry. Thanks in advance and we’ll see you soon!

    Hi Everyone,

I’m a Music Manager and booking agent in Akron and i wnted to let you know about a show i am bringing to Cleveland next Wednesday to Wilberts. the band is The Darrin James Band. Now why am I telling you this. Well it is because Darrin is promoting a CD that critics across the country are comparing to Tom Waits or even Paul Westerberg. His CD features Colin Stetson from Waits’ band as well as Dan Jennelsohn from Dub as a weapon.

Opening up the show is Colin John and Cliff Starbuck from Ekoostik Hookah.

The show is Wednesday April 23, 2008 at Wilberts on Huron downdown Cleveland.

Please e-mail me at museekmanagement@aol.com if you would like more information or just to say your coming.

    Thanks-hope to meet you.

    peace-

    Vikki Horowitz

    Hi,
I came across your site as I was looking for a way to contact Tom Waits’ management to see if he would pop by a Dylan Birthday Tribute Show we’re organizing on Dylan’s b-day this May 24 in San Francisco’s Rockit Room. Don’t suppose you have any tips on how to make contact?
(The Dylan show’s going to be great. Crooked Roads and Jeffrey Luck Lukas are confirmed so far, more TBA.)
    Thanks for any help,
    Chris

Saw Waits in St. Louis back in June. great show, although he didn’t do any of the old jazzbo-hipster tunes from the pre “Swordfishtrombones” records, as he sang some of those tunes at some of the venues, notably the last night in Dublin, Ireland.
Anyway, I travelled from Santa Cruz, California to see the concert. I’m wondering when he’s going to play again in California? By the way, with budget cuts at various school districts throughout the state, with music and art programs being eliminated, I wonder if Waits would consider doing a concert or concerts to raise money on behalf of hundreds of thousands of California kids who’s lost their music and art teachers so that Repugnantcans can keep their silly pledge not to raise taxes on the millionairs and billionairs who populate our state.
Dream concert: Waits and also Crystal Gayle as an opening act. Then both going on stage to sing those great duets from “One From the Heart.”
