Ümloud 2009: Play Rock Band, Support Child’s Play Charity
Video games can do more than monopolize many (very entertaining) hours of any given day. In the case of Child’s Play Charity, video gamers on an international level do much more than swing controllers. The Penny Arcade-founded charity strives to improve the lives of sick children by donating toys, games, books, and cash to over sixty hospitals worldwide. Five years’ worth of effort has resulted in over $3.5 million worth of donations. Read more about Child’s Play by clicking here.
Many people support Child’s Play by either donating to the cause or buying toys and games from hospital wishlists. Additionally, others have taken it upon themselves to organize regional events to raise money for the cause. Taking place at the DNA Lounge on Wednesday, December 9th, Ümloud is an all-ages Rock Band event in San Francisco to benefit Child’s Play Charity. More information after the jump.
There are several ways to participate in Ümloud’s efforts. You can simply show up on the 9th (the event is free, but $10 is the suggested donation) or buy advance tickets, and play Rock Band 2 in the lounge area where the “free play” will be set up.
Those who want to play Rock Band 2 on the main stage (with full lighting and sound system) can do so by forming a band and either purchasing a $35 Standard Band Pass ahead of time (the Ultimate Band Passes have sold out, unfortunately), or $40 on the night of the event.
Furthermore, everyone who participates will be eligible for a variety of prizes. Those who can’t attend but would still like to donate can do so by clicking here. There is also opportunity to volunteer at the event.
