Wanderlust Festival: Rock and Roll + Yoga, Together at Last!

Wanderlust Festival

Rock and roll? Check. Beautiful festival setting? Check. Theoretically, not much is missing from this combination – in fact, festivals like Monolith, Sasquatch! and our very own Treasure Island and Outside Lands demonstrate that you need not much more than some ace bands and lovely views to make for a good time (well, beer helps too). The debut of Wanderlust 2009, however, aims to round out the equation with a big honking dose of . . . yoga. Wait, what?

Well, it’s true. July 24th – 26th will mark the first edition of Wanderlust, the Yoga and Music Festival set to take place in Lake Tahoe’s Squaw Valley. In addition to a respectable lineup of bands, Wanderlust (produced by Velour Music Group, in conjunction with C3 Presents and Starr Hill Presents) will also feature a variety of classes led by notable yoga instructors, resulting in a “feast for both the body and the senses.”

Festival-goers will attend yoga classes in the morning down in the Village at Squaw Valley, and then take the cable car up the mountain in the afternoon for some musical relief. The lineup currently features Michael Franti & Spearhead, Spoon, Andrew Bird, Jenny Lewis, Broken Social Scene, Gillian Welch, and Girl Talk, as well as Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Rogue Wave, Amanda Palmer, Kaki King, Mates of State, and more. Not too shabby. The daily schedules have already been set: Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Fortunately, the Wanderlust organizers recognize the fact that not everyone identifies with the rock and roll + yoga combination, and have provided two options for those who wish to attend. Tickets for the Wanderlust 2009 festival are currently on sale – $124.50 for a weekend music pass and $169.50 for a music and yoga weekend pass. There are also two swanky VIP packages available, which you can find out about here and here.
