Uncle Corey

Weekend MP3s!!!

Oh, hello there! Nice of you to drop by … actually nice of me to drop by. Uncle Corey has been a bit, umm … absent lately. Having been a professional writer for 10 years, the urge to turn words into clever bot mots (it’s French – suck it) sometimes completely abandons me. Hunter S. Thompson said it best:

I’ve always considered writing the most hateful kind of work. I suspect it’s a bit like fucking – which is fun only for amateurs. Old whores don’t do much giggling. Nothing is fun when you have to do it – over and over, again and again – or else you’ll be evicted, and that gets old.

Well said, Doc.

To make it up, I’ve cobbled together a small collection of what I’ve been listening to over the past few weeks, instead of dutifully writing for this here blog. It won’t be as cool as Meow Picks (i.e., you’ll have heard of these bands), or breathlessly arty as a mixtape The Stranger puts together, but motherfucker, this shit will knock.

A couple things: Two Lil Wayne songs on here because I’m addicted to Tha Carter III. That album is just ill – I seriously couldn’t review it anymore because I’d just end up gushing. “Get Money” I really, really want to hate because I think T-Pain is a talentless hack – but I can’t. It’s damn near euphoric and Wayne fucks with the autotuner so much it’s fun to listen to. “You Ain’t Got Nuthin’” has two sick guest turns from Juelz Santana and Fabolous. Yes, Fabolous. Also, as you can guess from the picture, a great remix of Del tha Funkee Homosapien’s “If You Must” by Dan the Automator to lead off, two unreleased tracks from M.I.A.’s Kala, a 14-year-old Method Man song that’s better than 95 percent of the shit released today, and the Cool Kids, because, well Mikey rocks. Other stuff too – dig in.

  1. Del tha Funky Homosapien – “If You Must” [Automator Remix]
  2. The Cool Kids – “Mikey Rocks”
  3. Blue Scholars – “Self Portrait”
  4. Lil Wayne – “Got Money”
  5. Lil Wayne – “You Ain’t Got Nuthin’ “
  6. Method Man – “Tical”
  7. M.I.A. – “Big Branch”
  8. M.I.A. – “What I Got”
  9. Diplo – “Brew Barrymore”
  10. N.E.R.D. – “Windows”
